MEET LUCIA

Berkeley County resident Lucia Valentine has announced a run for West Virginia House of
Delegates representing the 97th district, which comprises parts of Berkeley and Jefferson
counties.

The Jefferson County native says she wants the district to have an effective voice in Charleston,
especially on bedrock issues like opportunities for young people, supporting teachers and
public employees, addressing the Eastern Panhandle's growing infrastructure needs, and more.

“Our young people continue to leave the state, and we need to find ways to bring West
Virginians back home so that they can work here, live here, and thrive here. We must
incentivize opportunities for good paying, sustainable job creation that will promote
responsible development here in the Eastern Panhandle.”

Valentine is no stranger to the legislative processes in Charleston. Since 2021 she has served as
a legislative advocate for West Virginia Environmental Council, working to protect the health of
West Virginia’s people and resources. Valentine has built a solid reputation as someone who
can work with Delegates and Senators of both parties. Valentine, a Democrat, says that working
across the aisle is the only way to get things done and is what voters expect.

“At a time when our political climate across the country and the state is so intensely divided, we need leaders who will be transparent, who are able to listen to the needs of their community with intention, and who can recognize that this is not just about party, but about our shared values.”

Valentine wants to hear from voters about their priorities.

“Representing the district means learning what’s most important to the people who live here, and finding ways to get things done,” she said. “We as West Virginians have more in common than we may think, and this can only be discovered when we show up for one another, listen to one another, and work together to find solutions to the problems our state faces.”
